Read that title line again and tell me what images come to your mind? So much hostility and dividing walls in such a short five word question, right?! But who are you voting for? What will you stand for? Who can save us from this world of strife and turmoil? I mean, this is the most consequential vote yet in your lifetime and in our country’s history!! Wow, sounds like a line from the Bachelor/Bachelorette’s Chris Harrison. All of a sudden feel like I am a contestant on the Bachelorette and I am entering a rose ceremony. Not a citizen entering a voting booth.
Jesus is really what’s on the ballot. While we can apply this very directly to the election rhetoric we are hearing, this truth was also true in Ephesus. Written to the Ephesians centuries before this rose ceremony worthy election was ever conceived, came these words from the apostle Paul.
“For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,…and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility.”
– Ephesians 2:14,16
Paul was dealing with two groups who without Christ were polar opposite. While service to Almighty God and compassion for each other is all that really matters, these two groups were allowing their distain for the other side to cloud their vision. They were getting caught up in which side is right, wrong, better or worse. Folks, this election Jesus is on the ballot of your heart. The only true election that matters. Jesus came to provide peace in a world of divisions and hate. Jesus came to provide direction to lost and wondering souls. Jesus came so we might find life and find it more abundantly. Jesus calls you and me to be the light in the darkness.
So this election don’t just vote for Jesus with your overtones. Rather live a life which makes you an election official for Him. Go to His rallies every Sunday morning and show your support. Read the literature He has provided to you. Meet with like minded people who will support you in supporting your Heavenly Candidate. Put up signs of His goodness in your heart and life’s actions, so others might see who you are voting for in this and every future election to come – candidate Jesus and His love.
So vote this election. Vote Trump, vote Biden or vote a write-in candidate. Chose for yourself, but don’t let the vote for a man wanting to lead a country overtake your vote of a Savior wanting to lead your heart. This voting season, vote on the Jesus ticket representing the Almighty God party. Friends, remember polling places are open in every town, every Sunday.
